Overview¶
Zendrum Studio at its heart is a SysEx editor. What that means is Zendrum Studio cannot directly edit your Zendrum© in real-time. It instead edits a local copy of the SysEx on your computer, which you can then upload to your Zendrum.
What is SysEx?¶
SysEx is basically the internal memory image of your Zendrum and can be thought of as a file which contains all of the instrument's settings.
From a high level, your basic work flow when using Zendrum Studio should be:
- Make your edits and save your project
- Transmit the modified SysEx to your Zendrum
- Test out the changes and repeat these steps as needed
Your first step to exploring Zendrum Studio will be to create a new project file, which is covered in the next section.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Your Zendrum can edit its memory image too but in a much cruder fashion. For instance if you change the noise floor on your Zendrum using the display and cursor keys, it changes the value for all triggers at once whereas Zendrum Studio allows much more fine grained control of edits.
As a general rule, you should make all your edits in Zendrum Studio and then push them to the Zendrum. You should avoid making edits directly on the Zendrum as that will undo and reset any fine tuning you did within Zendrum Studio.
