Assigning Mappings to Channels

The MIDI® specification supports up to 16 separate channels, numbered 1 through 16. Typically you will use channel #10 for drums. Often times channel #11 is used exclusively for percussion as well. It's common to use #1 for melodic lead and #2 for bass. These are however just guidelines and you are free to utilize channels in any way you see fit.

Within each User Setup, you can specify the MIDI channel to use for each individual trigger. For each channel, you can then specify which mapping you wish to use. Mappings determine what note names to display within the main UI and the note picker, so having the correct mapping for each channel is important.

To edit the channel mappings for a given User Setup, select User Setup > Edit Channel Mappings from the main menu. The Channel Mapping Editor will then appear. Here you can set the mapping for each available channel. There is also a control there to set the same mapping for ALL channels.

See the Channel Mappings preference pane for more detail.
